Riley Goodfellow , Co Editor-in-Chief

Riley is a senior at SJHHS and super excited to be returning to The Express as Co Editor-in-Chief! She was the Co Editor-in-Chief last year as well and is looking forward to her fourth year on The Express. Riley is a politically active, lacrosse playing, and outgoing girl who is always up for a challenge. She considers Lima, Peru her home since she lived there for five years, and she is fluent in Spanish. She is a total nerd when it comes to anything Harry Potter related, and hearing her sing lyrics to the musical Hamilton is a daily occurrence. Writing is Riley’s passion, and she seeks to travel the world as a journalist in the future!

Hailey Flowers (11) has been giving back to her community during the COVID-19 pandemic through the organization Meals On Wheels. She delivers meals to home bound senior citizens. Unfortunately, many of her future pageant and community service events have been cancelled due to COVID-19.

Assistant Offensive Line Coach, Cole Austin Cazel, was arrested Oct. 30 for inappropriate contact with students, including requests for child pornography. He was officially charged with Contact and Communication with a minor. The Orange County Sheriffs Department believes there are multiple victims.

Senior, Ataliwala Akshat, is also a student at SJHHS that was born the day the planes hit the twin towers. “A lot of people forget your birthday,” said Akshat but “the people that you share your birthday with have a connection,” he said.

Junior, Isabella Peloso, is constantly reminded of the tragedy that is 9/11 because she was born shortly after but “in a sense its memorable and it keeps it alive. Kids will ask me ‘what is 9/11?’ so it forces them to think about what happened and learn about what happened,” said Peloso. She would never change her birth date and embraces the lessons that come along with it.

Juniors Jaylan Patel and Matt Fong hold three frozen turkeys outside a local grocery store. The boys, along with junior Brandon Tong, were invited to go in the store and fill two carts with donations, after a stranger offered to pay for everything. The club ended up collecting enough food to feed 100 families. It donated to underprivileged families in San Juan Capistrano and to the families of deployed Marines who live on the Camp Pendleton base.
