Sydney is a senior at San Juan Hills entering her third year in The Express. When Sydney isn’t volunteering or playing tennis, you will most likely find her out and about taking photos or hanging out with her friends. She is very passionate about environmental causes and she devotes a lot of her time to both her non-profit organization One Ball at a Time and her recycle club in Rancho Mission Viejo. She is looking forward to her second year as a Photo Editor and is excited to continue to learn more about photojournalism!

Surrounded by dancers and colorful feathers, Billy Flynn, played by Jacob Koclainis (11), sings the song “All I Care About is Love” in the Stallion Theatre Company's teen-version production of Chicago. The Spring musical follows Roxie Heart, played by Peyton Kirkner (12), a murderer who tries to free herself after being convicted and sent to jail. Billy Flynn, Roxie's defense attorney, paints himself as considerate and thoughtful despite his underlying selfish and greedy motives. This number details Billy’s “only” motivation for being an attorney: his love of women. This proves to be a lie later in the show.

Minutes after the crash, a group of nearby students rush to the scene to see what had occurred. The students were also on their way to prom, but quickly became bystanders on the crash scene. After witnessing the injuries and deaths of their friends, who were victims of the crash, the students broke down and stood on the side of the scene, comforted by TIP (Trauma Intervention Programs) volunteers.

The race-conscious college admissions process has various pros and cons. Outside of room J105, the Sponsor a Stallion club ran a Winter Formal Dress Drive where students were able to donate any kind of formal attire, including dresses, suits, shoes, makeup - all of which are gender inclusive. These donations could be picked up free of cost by any student. Sponsor a Stallion acknowledged the ongoing issue of high expenses spent on school dances, so they aimed to help out students in need of financial support.

For the Winter Formal Pep Rally, dance coach Kristine Calder’s interpretation of the theme “Winter in Paris” followed the story of a girl who gets stood up at the altar and goes on a solo honeymoon trip to Paris with the help of her friends. After the opera ballet, the girl meets someone in the park and the two instantly fall in love. Sparks fly between the two characters as “snow” falls in the air around them, bringing the production to a close.

At the homecoming football game on October 8th, SJHHS win, defeating Capistrano Valley 66-13. This is the Stallions’ second win of the season, following their first victory earned at an away game the previous week. “The win was great, everything was working. Our offense couldn’t be stopped and our defense was locking down. The crowd was great as well. It was the loudest it’s ever been,” said Joey Malfavon (12).
