Marquees are Coming

From Friday night football games to drama’s riveting plays, SJHHS’ new marquee will advertise it all. Two marquees, rooflike structures that will project school events, will be installed by the end of this year.

“The marquee was something that PTSA was pushing a couple years ago, they started raising funds by donations by whoever was interested,” said ASB Activities Director, Brooke Valderrama.

The $40,000 that was needed for the marquees was achieved through: PTSA’s money (they had accumulated $16,000 through donations), money the senior class has donated as their “senior class gift,” and the rest through ASB.

The possible locations of the marquees were debated between the students of ASB several years ago, but now they’ve managed to agree on two locations. On the A building facing the Quad, which will be directed for students, and on the outside wall of the choir room which will be directed for parents.

The marquee in front of the choir room will have a sign that reads ‘Donated by PTSA and the Class of 2015’. The other marquee in the quad will be cheaper, and it will not have a sign on it.

The marquees will not only benefit SJHHS and the students, but parents as well.

“Often times there’s a disconnect between what parents hear and what students hear. . . we will finally be able to communicate events that are happening at the school to the parents, rather than just to the students,” said Senior Class President, Connor Stewart (12).
