There’s always a controversy between the two styles “indie” and “hipster”. Some may argue the two are similar and there is no difference. Others defend that “hipster” and “indie” people are completely different.
Thanks to Urban Dictionary, they clarify the difference between the two.
Indie has a more bohemian style and due to their vintage record collection from the 60s, 70s, and, occasionally, 80s, they are considered to be “born in the wrong generation”.
They tend to be more independent, free spirited, and non-conformists. Their clothes have an earthy tone. They have their own brand of ideas and trends and usually wear whatever they want.
Their favorite activities usually involve nature, as they are the modern day romantics. They dream of living in the wilderness, isolated from society, and often write poetry or short stories about their nature experiences.
The indie culture grew on the independent side of the entertainment business, starting with Ray-Bans prescription glasses (if they even need them) and Oxfords.
Hipsters have a more edgy style. They wear black, red, military inspired clothing, and Dr. Martens. They did, however, branch off from the indie lifestyles, but have a modern twist to it. Like their indie ancestors, hipsters reject the attitudes of mainstream consumers.
They are usually extremely educated about the music they listen to, and will most likely correct you if you’re wrong about their favorite band. Their style of music is a bit modern, lacking in instruments and possessing more technology like computers.
When discovering new things, they call themselves “different”, but when their revelation becomes popular, they use the phrase “that’s too mainstream” and move onto a new subject no one has heard of.
Never tell a hipster they are hipster, they will deny it. In fact, admitting that you are a hipster will not make you hipster.

the article is so short and simple? …but makes you completely understand what the difference is between being indie and being hippie as it has summarised the information into its simplest form to understand.
