Many junior varsity water polo players have advanced to varsity this season. Their hard work, determination, and passion have contributed to the team’s success.

Two new varsity players, Eric Forbes (10) and Brent McClain (10), emphasized the huge difference in player skill between junior varsity players and varsity players.

“Varsity players are faster and bigger” said Forbes, which in turn requires them to intensify their workouts. These athletes have adapted quickly and successfully to the new changes associated with being a varsity athlete, and they plan on continuing with the sport next season. With the support of the added players the team has grown stronger, and it will be difficult to defeat them this season.

The water polo team shows its dedication by practicing each day from 6:00-7:30 AM and 3:00-5:00 PM. Forbes said “the first hour of practice is used for conditioning, followed by water polo practice for the second hour.”

Most players have had no training prior to high school and the athletes must invest large amounts of time and effort into perfecting their specific positions in order to succeed.

With a 16-3 win against Crean Lutheran yesterday, the team demonstrated the confidence needed to play Capo Valley on September 30th.
