Elders vs Elders Game Rigged, Some Say

Seniors don’t live up to their trash talk in a flag-football game against the teachers

For the first time in school history, ASB hosted a flag football game between the Seniors and the staff. This game was also known as Elders vs Elders.

The game was played as a pep rally for the San Juan Hills football game against Dana Hills. Before the Elders vs Elders game, ASB hosted a “dolphin roast” and served hot dogs to the first hundred students present.

Before the game, there was a lot of tension between the teachers and the Seniors. When Connor Stewart (12) was asked about his prediction for the game he responded, “Is that even a question? They won’t score a single point on us.”

Joe Snedeker of the history department responded to this trash talk after the game by replying “Of course we didn’t think we would lose, we are a highly tuned staff of athletes.”

The two teams consisted of 21 players, and seven would play at a time. The rules were simple. Each team would start at the 25-yard line and instead of tackling, they just needed to pull the opponents flag.

The staff scored first with a 20-yard touchdown pass thrown by math teacher, Rich LaRue. Kyle Luna (12) and the Seniors quickly responded and scored in their first two plays.

History teacher Damon Garner started an impressive offensive roll and made a 4-yard touchdown catch, which gave the staff a 14-7 lead over the Seniors. Following the touchdown,  George Rodriguez of the math department caught an interception and gave the ball right back to the staff.

“Mr. Summers was the MVP of our team because of all his defensive stops,” said Snedeker.

Donvan Trumble of the science department increased the staff lead to 21-7 after making an impressive running touchdown catch. Despite being down by 14, the Seniors did not give up.

The Seniors scored two touchdowns in a row to tie up the game and secured a victory just seconds before lunch ended. This comeback stunned the staff, and created controversy. Many staff members thought that the Seniors cheated their way out of a loss when they received an extra possession at the very end of the game, but the Seniors claimed that they were cheated by the referee with the extensive number of penalties called on them.

The game ended in a 21-21 tie.
