Newsweek/The Daily Beast ranks SJHHS number 500 in this year’s roundup of top schools.

SJHHS jumped from 900 to 500 out of 2,000 different schools, beating out Aliso Niguel High School and San Clemente High School.

The ranking system was based on a study The Newsweek/The Daily Beast did where they analyzed overall graduation rate, percentage of students accepted into colleges, amount of AP and IB classes offered and average SAT and ACT scores.

SJHHS also made the California Business for Education Excellence (CBEE) 2012 Honor Roll. The 2012 Honor Roll includes elementary, middle, and high schools that demonstrate consistent high levels of academic achievement. Specifically for high schools, Honor Roll recognition includes measures of college readiness. The Honor Roll list was started in 2005 with 261 schools being recognized. In 2012 the Honor Roll now recognizes 2,108 schools as high achieving schools. Specifically for high schools, Honor Roll recognition includes measures of college readiness.

CBEE has a set of success factors they look for in Honor Roll schools. These are high expectations for all students; ongoing collaboration among teachers to improve practice; targeted use of data to pinpoint challenges and monitor progress; continual intervention for struggling students; and mastery of content knowledge and pedagogical practices.
