Ben Bartlett is a junior at San Juan Hills and this will be his first year writing for The Express. He was on the baseball team his freshman and sophomore years of high school and is currently an offensive lineman on the football team. He enjoys weightlifting in his free time and is very interested in politics. He is excited to get started writing for The Express where he will be the sports editor.

Rules for the California Primary have been changed this year. These changes allow for more opportunities to vote with election day being expanded to eleven days. The primary has also been moved up to the ever important Super Tuesday on March 3rd.

Harper O'Loughlin (11) holds a piece of wood steady while Julia Raubolt (12) drills it in. These final touches on the cross sections add detail to the scaffolding on stage. After drilling, the scaffold was painted and given final checks before the show. Throughout Newsies, this scaffolding was used for all of the dance numbers in addition to its frequency in helping to make the sets. These sets are built during Mr.Pike’s fifth period stagecraft class at SJHHS.

Thomas Pike works on the Newsies set in “the shop”. “The shop” is where all tools are kept and where all drilling and wood cutting is done. Mr. Pike was the technical director for Newsies and teaches stagecraft at SJHHS. He oversees all set productions and oversees that everyone stays safe near dangerous equipment. He will also be directing the upcoming SJHHS production Madea, premiering March 5th.

Presley Nicholson (11) collaborates with director Cambria Graff and backstage sound members during the mic check. During this time, backstage crew members were able to test the sound of the microphones, in order to find the perfect balance in volume. Behind Nicholson, actors wait their turn to test their microphones. In the production Nicholson played Katherine Plumber, a desperate journalist who writes the story of the “newsies”.

Jonah Johnson (12) raises the CIF Championship Plaque in celebration with his teammates and coaches. The Stallion Football team took home the title on November 29 in a game against Loyola High School. They won the game 21-15, earning the school's first ever CIF championship in football.
