Newsies: Behind the Scenes

Harper+OLoughlin+%2811%29+holds+a+piece+of+wood+steady+while+Julia+Raubolt+%2812%29+drills+it+in.+These+final+touches+on+the+cross+sections+add+detail+to+the+scaffolding+on+stage.+After+drilling%2C+the+scaffold+was+painted+and+given+final+checks+before+the+show.+Throughout+Newsies%2C+this+scaffolding+was+used+for+all+of+the+dance+numbers+in+addition+to+its+frequency+in+helping+to++make+the+sets.+These+sets+are+built+during+Mr.Pike%E2%80%99s+fifth+period+stagecraft+class+at+SJHHS.

Harper O’Loughlin (11) holds a piece of wood steady while Julia Raubolt (12) drills it in. These final touches on the cross sections add detail to the scaffolding on stage. After drilling, the scaffold was painted and given final checks before the show. Throughout Newsies, this scaffolding was used for all of the dance numbers in addition to its frequency in helping to make the sets. These sets are built during Mr.Pike’s fifth period stagecraft class at SJHHS.

Artistic Opportunities at SJHHS

C.C. Showers, Jacob Koclanis (12), and Jennie Mae Layman, Emery Thompson (10), attempt to rid mentally challenged Buddy Layman, Leo Perry (11), of his ringworm by washing his feet with warm water. Throughout the entirety of the play, the main characters try to relieve Buddy of his uncomfortable infection, but this task proves to be difficult as Buddy is unwilling to go anywhere near water after his own mother drowned.

“The Diviners” Takes The Stage

Cure JM put together an event with help from National Honor Society students in order to bring awareness to juvenile myositis.
