Stallion girls lacrosse pushed through two games a week in the beginning competition stages during the South Coast League Finals. A total of six games were played against the challenging teams, San Clemente, Aliso Niguel, and Trabuco Hills. Alternating with home field and other school’s turf, Stallion Girls Varsity remained undefeated throughout the series of competition.
Under pressure, the team did not expect to leave the 2026 League with such a large victory with such a young team. In the previous year, the upperclassman girls of Varsity added mature playing styles which complimented younger teammates. Going into the new season, 12 seniors had graduated and completely shifted the 2026 team dynamics.
“I definitely felt like I was taken under their wing. They made it feel like such a welcoming environment in the community, and it was such a blessing to know these girls,” said Thompson.
With an extended rivalry against San Clemente and multiple defeats, an unspoken tension had lingered between the girls on the field. A shifted focus came upon the girls’ mindsets and drive for success was a dominating factor during the finals, ultimately ending San Clemente’s winning streak against the SJHHS team.
Not only did they fiercely compete, but friendships off the field encourage communication and trust for each play. As new athletes join the team, veterans on Varsity welcome younger athletes with an inviting embrace. Leadership is key when it comes to the function of the team, leading to success for the girl’s relationships and strategy during a game.
“And we just decided, our focus was wanting it. Because if we wanted it more itll show on the field. I think at the end of the day, both teams wanted to win, but we wanted it more. So it was a very intense couple of games,” said Blaire Thompson (10), first year member of the team.
Coach Walter and Coach Claire are competitive individuals who push their athletes by honoring each individual small victory, no matter the overall outcome of the game. As encouragement, Walter and Claire keep spirits high but fierce, rather than calling out mistakes made after a game, they build-off the moments that stood out to them positively. Small victories and clever plays do not go unnoticed. Even when the overall outcome of the game is not favorable, they discipline the athletes while being proud of each game’s progression.
This season concluded with a new milestone for girls lacrosse and history for the Stallion athletic department. Completing the 2026 season with the title of South Coast League Champs, it is the first time for such a victory during the playoffs. Each member came together with efforts and their all to achieve this milestone for SJHHS Athletic Department history.
