Returning for the second year is the girl’s softball Gold Game. In this game, parents, students and teachers alike come together to watch the girl’s varsity team battle it out against a fierce competitor. This year, the team took on Capo Valley high school in a fourth inning stretch.

Head coach Tyler Deshon has coached the girls softball team for the past six years, and plans to coach for future years to come.

“My favorite part about softball has gotta be the people, it’s always great working with some talented athletes going for it everyday and riding for the brand” said Deshon.

“The gold game is a really exciting opportunity to play in front of a ton of peers and little kids, and a chance to inspire younger kids who are looking to play at San Juan,” said senior Peyton Leonard who has played softball for over fourteen years.

The Gold Game spotlights various players for their athletic excellence in front of their community.

“It’s always nice to have maybe some other sports come out and support the others and give attention to sports that sometimes don’t get as many fans,” said Deshon.

Although the team lost, this spring sport has fostered many unique friendships and bonds between players.

“My favorite part about softball is being able to hangout with my friends,” said senior Regan Legg who plans to attend the University of Oregon next year to continue her softball pursuits.

“My favorite part of softball is getting to play with friends and young people who I usually wouldn’t get to,” said Leonard.
