Homework over break

The long awaited break is around the corner. Students have been waiting anxiously for it for nearly three months. Thanksgiving break is a time to catch up with sleep, TV shows and relax. Homework is something almost every student has come to dread. During the school week, our “free time” is spent doing countless hours of it.

Now, combine break with homework. It equals out to be students procrastinating until the last sunday of break to crack open their textbooks and do the work their teachers assigned.

A main reason that some teachers assign homework over break is because they do not want their students to forget what they have learned.

It cannot be helping the students when they cram in work at the last minute so that they will not get a zero on the assignment.

In past years, some teachers assign so much homework, that break isn’t much of a break anymore. The stress that it brings to get work done, along with what their family has planned for the holiday makes break somewhat unenjoyable for some students.

When Connor Barnes, senior, stated “ … I don’t necessarily agree with it because people are going to go be with their family. I feel like people forget things over break. It’s better for teachers to do it before or after so people will remember things.”

If homework continues invading our break, we can say farewell to relaxation, adiós to sleep, and goodbye to our shows we love so dearly, until summer of course.
