Iman Elkoustaf, Feature Editor
Iman Elkoustaf is a senior at San Juan Hills. This year marks her second year on The Express, and she is so excited to continue growing connections, meeting new people, and producing great journalism. Within San Juan Hills, Iman is very spirited and loves staying involved on campus. Outside of school, Iman is a principal dancer at Repertory Ballet San Clemente, teaches ballet to young girls, and loves spending time with friends and family. She is looking forward to growing her journalism skills as Feature Editor of The Express this year!
Gabriella Bello, Editor-in-Chief
Gabriella Bello is a senior in her bittersweet fourth year on The Express Staff. As Editor-in-Chief, she is looking forward to growing as both a leader and journalist. Likewise, she is excited to expand the newspaper’s sections, capture more stories, and watch the newspaper thrive. She is grateful to have been part of a program that lifts up student voices and the voices of our communities. Her interests include creative writing, watching films, traveling, going to concerts, and hanging out with family/friends. Outside of school, she enjoys volunteering at her church and Providence Mission Hospital. Gabriella plans on pursuing a career as a physician and continuing to write after high school.
Reese Whitehead, Opinion Editor
Reese is a junior at San Juan Hills High School and first-year opinion editor for The Express. Outside of journalism she is an athlete on the junior varsity tennis team, a member of the cappies theater critics, and a small business owner. She is excited to be in a leadership position to continue developing the skills necessary to major in journalism at a four year university.
Cadence Henss, Caption/Copy Editor
Cadence Henss is a junior at San Juan Hills High School, and is coming back for her second year on The Express as the Caption and Copy Editor. She’s looking forward to experimenting with photography, and writing a diverse range of stories this year on The Express. Cadence enjoys taking photos, volunteering for multiple organizations, listening to a wide range of music, and hanging out with friends in her spare time. Cadence is working towards her future career, and wants to major in journalism and minor in english when she leaves for college.
Tanner Pasternak, Staff Writer
Tanner Pasternak is a senior at San Juan Hills and this is his first year on The Express team. Over the years, he has grown his writing skills through demanding English classes and is excited to play a role for the school’s newspaper. Tanner plays for the varsity volleyball team, is involved in a handful of clubs, and is a member of Link Crew. In his free time, he enjoys hanging out with friends, going to the gym, and traveling to new places. He hopes to attend a college in a fun, largely-populated city such as New York, Boston, or Los Angeles while pursuing a degree in psychology.
Damian Gonzalez-Flores, Staff Writer
Damian Gonzalez-Flores is a senior at San Juan Hills High School and this is his first year in The Express. He’s looking forward to covering events of the school of his final year. Damian enjoys eating food and reading books, some of his favorites are Gary Paulsen’s Hatchet and Dante Alighieri’s Inferno. He visions himself entering UCLA or UCI to further his education.
Aila Lehto, Staff Writer
Aila Lehto is a Junior at San Juan Hills Highschool. This is her first year being on The Express Newspaper and she is eager to contribute to the team. Outside of school, she has always enjoyed reading and writing, along with spending time with her family and friends. She especially enjoys hanging out at the beach. Although she prefers English-based subjects, Aila is planning to pursue a degree in psychology. Her goal is to become a forensic psychologist.
Lily Zollinger, Staff Writer
Lily is a sophomore at San Juan Hills High School and in her first year of The Express. She has always had a passion for photography and photoshopping. Outside of The Express, Lily is currently in a variety of clubs, volunteers hours to service, and plays with the San Juan Hills tennis team. In the future, Lily hopes to attend a four year university to later enter the medical field.
Sophia Roldan, Boys Sports Editor
Sophia Roldan is a Senior at San Juan Hills High School. This is her second year on The Express Newspaper staff, and she is excited to further connect with her school community and continue to grow as a writer. Sophia is a member of the SJHHS varsity tennis team, NHS, and a few clubs at San Juan Hills. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her friends, listening to music, as well as going to the beach. Sophia hopes to further pursue her academic career at a four-year university in San Diego.
Zoey Hallett, Staff Writer
Zoey Hallett is a sophomore and graduating class of 2028. Zoey loves to spend time with friends and family. She likes to go to the dance studio and to Harbor Point church. Being a part of The Express for this first year will be a fresh, fun experience, and something to look forward to. She hopes everyone has a great year.
Kaiah MacLeod, News Editor
Kaiah MacLeod is a Junior at San Juan Hills, and it is her third year on The Express. She is excited to be the News section editor this year. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with friends, reading books, and watching movies that she intricately reviews on Letterboxd. In the next two years, she wants to excel in her multiple AP classes, get more projects and experience in cinema, and be a great editor for her new staff. At her future university, Kaiah also plans on pursuing film and writing in New York, as well as being a big time film director long-term.
Charlotte Facer, Staff Writer
Charlotte is a freshman this year at SJHHS, a first timer in the newspaper staff. She is involved in Concert Choir and the Girls Golf team. If she finds a good book you won’t find her without it. In her free time, you can find her listening to music, shopping, hanging out with friends, or at the beach. She can’t wait to find out what this year will hold.
