Link Crew is a program that serves as a gateway for upperclassmen to guide and communicate with incoming freshmen to ensure a smooth transition to high school. The program begins with Freshman Orientation in August where Link Leaders engage the incoming class through fun activities and campus tours. As the academic year progresses, these leaders continue to communicate with freshmen by sending out reminders about upcoming events associated with San Juan Hills, and by offering support whenever it is needed.
In wintertime, Ms. Moos, the Link Crew advisor, utilizes her Link Leaders in a multitude of different ways to continue to support freshmen as a constant resource.
“As the year progresses…I think having consistent events nearly every month allows for [freshmen] to find that connection every time, or at least more regularly than they would without Link Crew. I feel like having it throughout the year helps build community,” said Ms. Moos.
Ms. Moos is also an English teacher and soccer coach on campus alongside directing link crew.
“There are definitely times when balancing is tough–particularly this month has been challenging–[and] it became a challenge for me to find times to meet but also for me to just get myself organized enough to be able to facilitate a meeting,” said Moos.
Despite the time crunch, Ms. Moos remains committed to growing the program. Looking forward, potentially with a new tutorial system starting during the 2026-27 school year, Ms. Moos hopes that new tutoring sessions will allow current Link Leaders to connect with struggling freshmen.
“It can be an opportunity for [freshmen] to sit in small groups and ask these leaders who have taken [certain] classes questions, and I think that that is the biggest opportunity that I see in the next couple of years for Link Crew to really make an impact on students,” said Moos.
Of course, Link Crew has always had an impact on the freshmen student body in a positive way. But through these sessions, it amplifies that impact even more, creating more fun and different ways to boost community on campus.
Link Crew helps develop skills such as communicating and vouching for oneself in a fun, low-stress environment. To any readers on the fence on whether they should become a leader or not, Ms. Moos warmly encourages prospective students to join the program!
“[B]eing uncomfortable creates a lot of growth and in your last couple years of high school, that’s where we want that growth to happen,” said Moos.
