Within South Orange County, the students of San Juan Hills have found employment in local ice cream joints. Students have also found comfort within these shops.
Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream is not only delicious, but also a fun place to work. Known for their huge selection of flavors that are hand made on site, this is an ideal spot for teens who are looking for a part time job.
“Working at Handles provides a fun work environment that allows me to socialize with coworkers and make friends,” said Amy Sun (12).
Handel’s is known for their specialty items like shakes and cakes, and especially their four scoop sampler, for when you can’t decide.
Similar to Handel’s, is Bruster’s Real Ice Cream. This American chain is also known for their vast selection of unique flavors brimming with chunky goodness. Their ice cream is also made in small batches at each individual store. Bruster’s offers huge portions and specialty desserts like homemade ice cream pies and cakes.
“Working at a local ice cream shop is fun because it’s close to where I live and I also get to work and serve a lot of people I know like my friends so it really makes the job fun,” said Sophia Roldan (12).
South Swell is one of the newer additions to the area. This local, fan favorite ice cream shop is known for their chocolate and vanilla soft serve that’s hand dipped in a variety of toppings. Located near the beach in Laguna and San Clemente, this funky dessert joint is worth a visit. You can’t miss the pink themed storefront.
“One of my all time favorites is South Swell Ice Cream. I love their bright aesthetic and vibe they present and their friendly atmosphere that makes it super welcoming,” said Brennan Crisp (12).
Cosentino’s in San Clemente has been a go to for beach goers for years. Located right on the ocean it’s the perfect place to stop in for a sweet treat. While they don’t make their own ice cream or offer anything really unique, they do have location going for them.
“Cosentinos is so much fun and I have made a lot of friends from working there,” said Lindsay McNutt (12).
Customers love going to these local ice cream shops within local towns of San Juan Hills High School.So, if you’re looking for a summer job scooping ice cream, you better get those applications in stat. These jobs go fast for a reason.
