Kylie Lugo (12) and Kelsey Hampson (12) perform a duet together at the Spring Choir Concert. While most songs were sung in English, some were in languages such as Italian and German, which require weeks of practicing pronunciations of words along with learning the melodies and harmonies.

Choir had a solo concert in the black box theater on Saturday March 26th, called “Singing Under The Stars” to raise money for their San Francisco tour.

Choir students were given the opportunity to sing any song and could perform as a solo, duet, or small group.

Students that were interested in having a solo in the concert were required to audition for Mr. Ushino, then he had picked 20 acts to perform for the concert.

Choir usually performs as a group, this small concert was a little change for choir students.

“I liked being able to hear all the talented people in our choir being showcased. Since we are singing with a group most of the time, it is cool to see a lot of the students perform on their own as well. There are so many talented people in the program!” says Jasmine Powell (12).

The solo concert was put together to raise money for choirs’ San Francisco tour, which will take place on April 5th to April 9th.

“The San Francisco trip is an opportunity for choir students to take what they’ve learned for the past couple months and go perform in different places along the California coast,” says Powell.

Choir students are really looking forward to the San Francisco tour.

“I’m looking forward to spending time with my friends since it’s our senior year and i’m looking forward to performing in really cool places,” says Kelsey Hampson (12).

Choir will be creating unforgettable memories while performing at fascinating places.

“We are going to be performing in the biggest cathedral in San Francisco, Grace Cathedral, which will be an experience of a lifetime together,” says Kylie Lugo (12).

This was the first year choir had put together a solo concert, and plans on continuing and having one each semester the next school year.
