Multicutural Fair Give Clubs a Chance to Raise Funds
The quad was filled with an array of clubs and food on February 21 for the annual Multicultural Fair. Each club, assigned a specific country, provided a food or other item related to their selected country. Many clubs were creative this year with activities ranging from henna tattoos to fortune cookie pong, and even maple syrup shots.
This year, in many ways, is similar to other years, but according to activities director, Brooke Valderrama, “The main thing that’s different is that we have different clubs. The week is also a little bit different in the fact that this year we have different performers that are more cultural based, where as, in the past, the performers seemed to be just fun and random.”
In addition to the growth of diversity in clubs presented, the event improved efficiency by offering students a heads up regarding the actual content of club booths. “We [gave] a menu to each kid who [bought] a ticket, so that they [knew] what each club [brought], food wise,” said Sarah Chade, junior and ASB club commissioner.
Entertainers brought their own unique talent to the upper quad throughout Multicultural week, from European fire dancers to Hawaiian hula dancers, finishing off with a Mariachi band on the day of the fair. A few of SJHHS students accompanied the professional musicians during the performance.
Brooke Valderrama said, “[the fair] is such a big part of the activities on campus and is the best way to try and celebrate other cultures by involving the clubs.” In addition to all of the food and flash, Multicultural Fair is an excellent way for students to explore far away countries and fascinating cultures without taking a step off campus.
