SJHHS’s 2016-17 girl’s soccer team has big aspirations for the end of their season. They have three wins and two losses so far into the season and are hoping to win CIF this year because of how far they made it last year.

This year, three varsity seniors, Rylee Hanes, Issy Bellinghausen and Dani Satterwhite, have taken the role as captains for the team. All have been on Varsity for the past 4 years.

The Varsity captains also recently signed their letters of intent to play soccer for the next four years. Issy Bellinghausen and Danielle Satterwhite both signed to UCLA and Rylee Hanes signed with Missouri University of Science and Technology.

Rylee Hanes, the goalkeeper and co-captain, believes that her Stallion girls can make it to CIF.

“I believe that our team can finish in the top of our league and make CIF once again this year. Although we didn’t win CIF last year I feel like we have the ability to make it further this year,” said Hanes.

With the last half of their season to go, the team still has a chance to make it to CIF.

Issy Bellinghausen and Dani Satterwhite, who have both been playing for 14 years, say that their underclassmen have potential to be leaders in the upcoming years.

“Our pre-season was not the best, but during league, we stepped it up a lot,” said Satterwhite.

The team is now in third place, making them eligible to qualify for playoffs. If they make it passed that they will be able to compete in the CIF tournament.

“We have a young team. Rachel Hall, who is only a sophomore, really stepped up this year, and Brinley Hawkins, a Junior,  has [also] proven that after the seniors leave this year they will continue to do great,” said Bellinghausen.

It seems that there will still be strong leadership after the 2017 senior class graduates. Current Juniors as well as some Sophomores have the ability to become captains and lead their team for the next couple of years.
