For SJHHS Girl’s tennis, the fall season has been deemed a success. According to team captains Michaela Fromm, Sophie Bolotin, and Kira Rapp, the team has moved up to the South Coast league and is now in third place.

“We have surprised a lot of people, including ourselves,” said Fromm. “We have really made a name for our team and continue to play hard even though eight seniors graduated last year.”

This year, the varsity team has an interesting mix of two freshmen, a majority juniors, and three seniors. “We are definitely a more unified and cohesive unit. We work together and we each put in our work in order to succeed,” Fromm said.

Additionally, there is a new head coach this year, Amy Taylor, who was previously the assistant coach last year.

“She is a vibrant addition to the team and always has a positive attitude,” said team captain Kira Rapp. “She’s been really good about making sure we maintain energy.”

With a new dynamic and strength, the girls hope they can qualify for CIF this year at the end of the season. “All the girls have been giving 110% and I couldn’t be more proud of everyone’s effort,” said Sophie Bolotin.

Although Dana Hills High School and San Clemente High School currently dominate the number one and two spots, there is still a chance for SJHHS to compete.

“We have a really strong chance of being third this season and I think we can definitely become stronger in the next season,” Fromm said. Rapp added, “It might be possible this year too, we have the determination and skill.”

Both the captains and the rest of the team have enjoyed the competition this year. While being in a new league has been tough, they have worked hard, stayed determined, and proven that this league is where they belong.
