SJHHS baseball defeated Moreno Valley 5-2 in non-league play. The only difference between this game and the other victories for the Stallions; this one was played at Angels Stadium.

On May 29, a stadium that usually holds over 40,000 passionate Angels fans instead was sprinkled with over 1,000 supporting parents, teachers and friends for both teams.

After going through pre-game ceremonies and soaking in the atmosphere of a major league ballpark, the game was under way.

“The most memorable thing for me was definitely playing centerfield and realizing I was standing in the same spot as Mike Trout does,” said Nathan Brawner (11).

The Stallions got off to a quick start that night, stringing together several hits totaling three runs in the first inning, but the offense was held in check by the Eagles bullpen for the rest of the game.

With only three runs in the first five innings, the Stallions allowed the Eagles to crawl back into the game, scoring two in the second and one in the sixth, tying the game at three.

However, with clutch hitting by Stallions Marcus Williams (11)  in the bottom of the sixth who drove in two more runs with his single to right field, would give the Stallions closer Jaq McCarthy (11) all the runs he needed, striking out 2 of the last 3 batters to seal the win for the Stallions.

“I just tried to put my best swing on the pitch and do my job, it worked out for us,” said Williams.

The victory propelled the Stallions on a 5 game winning streak, winning 6 of their last 7 games, only one game short of reaching CIF playoffs.

“It was a strong end to the season despite our slow start, but I still will never forget the memories

I obtained with my teammates throughout this process,” said Jackson Lanigan (12).

Despite the unfortunate finish coming short of CIF, the Stallions can rest their hat on the experiences they gained, and look to grow next season.
