Another SJHHS social media page? Yes. But, wait, this time it is “official.”

Many students think this is just another student created account, however, the account is owned and operated by the school. This page will not be run by anyone in the student body.

One of our teachers, Jennifer Mele, is working as an STAP 1 to help establish the official accounts. Mele hopes to, “work together with students, parents, teachers, and the community to make San Juan Hills shine.”

At first, students were concerned that the account would be an invasion of their privacy, citing reasons like the school would follow them back and monitor their postings. And invade their privacy.

But Mele said SJHHS will not follow students or parents back. The account will only follow the other San Juan Hills accounts and other local businesses and organizations that will benefit the school.

Also, because the account will be run by an administrator, this minimizes the risk of the account becoming inactive or being misleading. Mele recommends all students and parents have their settings on private and review followers and posts prior to allowing them on your own personal page.

Students graduate, and when they graduate, some accounts they ran are lost or discontinued. But if they still follow the official account they can catch up on the latest going on at San Juan, and they can come to the various events our school holds that are open to the public.

“Not all students will be interested in following all of the small accounts, but they can get a snapshot of all the great things happening at school by following the official account.”

Furthermore,“followers can expect to find pictures from school events, invitations to upcoming events, and friendly reminders about services we offer on our campus,” according to Mele.

There are three official sites: Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram which you can find by searching @officialsjhhs. There are many student accounts on Instagram, this account Official SJHHS wants to collaborate not compete.

The school aims,“ to have admin, teachers, parents, students, feeder schools, local businesses, and colleges participate by following [the] pages.”

Other school’s official accounts have 2000+ followers, but our official page only has around 300. Mele hops to generate more school pride by getting students to follow the account. Mele said that “[one] big reason for official SJHHS accounts is that our school is up for re-accreditation and it is a great way to show WASC what a great school and student population we have.”

There is also an account that is run solely by ASB, and they want to also promote all accounts that properly represent and give “positive exposure” to our school.

For those interested in following the account, you can search official SJHHS on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. You can look for posters in your teacher’s’ rooms. Also, the posters are all around the school. The account name for all platforms is @officialsjhhs .
