LGBT Center OC Summer Events
June 12, 2015
The LGBT Center OC is “calling ALL Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transexual, Queer +, and Allied” youth to join Youth Empowered Act’s (YETA) annual Color Me Equal Leadership BootCamp.
It occurs from July 7 to August 14 on Mondays and Tuesdays in the Brad Bradford LGBT Center. This is located on 4th 305 E. St. Santa Ana, on the second floor. Being a part of the camp will help youth develop leadership and important organization skills; as well as how to improve campaigning skills.
These skills include “power analysis, base building, campaign strategy, LGBT Pride Organizing, and Restorative Justice Healing Circle practices.”
With these acquired skills, students and youth will be prepared to help create Safe Zones for all LGBT members in schools and community locations.
This program is free and will provide light snacks. If transportation is an issue, stipends for transportation such as bus pases and gas cards will be available.
In the upcoming future, there is also a Queer Youth Prom that will occur in late June.
Queer Youth Prom will be held on June 27 at the Brad Bradford LGBT Center in Santa Ana. It is meant for LGBT, questioning, and allied youth between the ages of 14 to 20 to enjoy a safe event filled with “dancing, music, and entertainment.”
Unlike most traditional proms, it is a free to enter event that also provides free food and refreshments. Street parking will also be free after 8 PM in addition to the parking structure on 5th and Spurgeon.
Attendees must bring a school identification card or an alternative valid identification card, but no guest will be sent away. Make sure to e-mail the organizer if you need a solution, they are more than willing to assist.
No one over the age of 20 will be admitted.
Finally, Queer Youth Prom is a “safe and sober event.” There is zero tolerance for smoking, drinking alcohol, or any taking any kind of drugs. Any suspicion will result in the immediate removal from the event,
Both the leadership camp and the prom are free events, located in the Brad Bradford LGBT Center in Santa Ana. They both embrace gender diversity and welcome all identities and genders.
