For some people, another school year is nothing too extraordinary, but for the incoming students who are new to high school this year can potentially bring a fresh start and a perfect opportunity to experience the excitement of high school.

As each school year goes by, San Juan Hills High School continues to expand and flourish with the arrival of new freshmen from various schools and districts. This school year brought the largest group of incoming freshmen that SJHHS has seen since it was established, and they were welcomed with open arms.

These new Stallions received the best possible introduction into high school through the help of Link Crew at freshmen orientation.

Luckily for these students, the often daunting shift into high school was made simple. Thanks to the help of these enthusiastic volunteers, anxious minds were put at ease as Link Crew showed them the ropes of high school.

An added bonus is that they were able to meet new people before the school year even began.

“They were all pretty awkward, but I think it was meant to be awkward because they were in a big room with a bunch of people they’ve never met, so of course it was kind of uncomfortable at first. Then when we got them to play games they started to slowly open up to the whole group, and in the end they were all talking. It was exciting to see them get comfortable with that,” said Link Crew leader Claire Taylor (11).

“I would love to join link crew when I am an upperclassman because I really want to help out all the freshmen, and I want to get more associated with school activities,” said Maya Piravi (9).

The hope for Link Crew is that new students will enjoy the transition into becoming a Stallion, and that they will be positively influenced by their leaders. This year’s Link Crew staff has definitely achieved this goal of theirs.
