Registration Through Student Portal Required Now

Starting this year, students are required to register for their fall courses via student portal, however many students, especially sophomores and juniors, don’t know what it is or how to access it.

During registration week, parents were required by CUSD to create a parent portal allowing them to check their children’s attendance record, transcripts, tests and current schedule.

Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors now must do the same by creating their own portals both at home and at school. According to Guidance, information about the change was posted on the SJHHS List Serve, which gives detailed instructions on how to sign up.

But most students are unaware of the ListServe or are not subscribers. Information regarding ListServe can be accessed here.

Maureen Scherf, Head Academic Advisor, says,

“from January 18 to February 6th, students will be able to view their spring semester schedule via student portal.”

However, to register for next school year, all students are required to have a portal. Students will no longer see the colored sheets with their classes for the following year, informing them of the classes they are enrolled in. Now, it will all be done on the student portal.

The week of April 21, “students will be able to view their core classes and select their electives for the 2014-2015 school year,” says Scherf.

Students enrolled in CCP for fall semester will have the opportunity to create a portal during class. Freshmen taking the class in the spring will make one in the first few weeks of CCP.

But current sophomores and juniors will have to take care of it themselves.

Within the next few weeks, sophomore and junior English classes will filter the computer lab to create the needed accounts. But beware: English teachers discovered that the student portal is not allowing students with a Yahoo email to register.  If you have a Yahoo email, create a different email account (gmail etc.) before trying to register for the student portal.

Students who do not own or have access to a computer are able to use the library or see their counselor regarding their class schedule.
