Make a Difference club
The Make a Difference club, also known as MAD, is a club that is focused on helping the community while also providing community service hours for the students here at San Juan Hills.
This club was started by Samantha Eden (11) who wants to give back to the community by providing service to others.
“I have always enjoyed community service and I believe that it is important to give back to the community,” said Eden. “We go out to different locations and volunteer with different organizations to benefit the community.”
There are many students involved in the Make a difference club. All these students have joined because they want to make a difference at school and in the community.
While volunteering, students also have had the opportunity to earn community service hours. This is very beneficial for students in the club who have to complete hours for NHS, AVID, or college.
The club has raised money for many different organizations that they have worked with through fundraising.
For their part in helping the community, Samantha and her cub members have been recognized for their help from Laura’s House and Serra’s Pantry, both located in San Juan Capistrano.
Currently, the Make a Difference club is working with Brookdale Senior Living, a home for the elderly, in San Juan. They volunteer by spending time with the residents that are living at the senior home who do not have visitors.
The Make a Difference club meets every other Thursday in Madame Keeler’s room, E05.
