Lights, camera, action! Cambria Beilstein will set the stage for our drama department this year and more to come, following the retirement of the legendary Sheila Silver, our former drama teacher.

“I found this job through my good friend Melissa Staab, the choreographer from last years performance, Crazy For You,” Beilstein said about finding the opening at SJHHS.

“I have been teaching high school students for four years and adults for seven years,” says Beilstein. Beilstein’s last teaching occupation was for the Drama Department at King-Chavez High School in San Diego.

Beilstein has been working hard with the students, teaching them new acting techniques and drills to help them improve.

“We do a lot of fun acting drills and one new drama drill we did was musical chairs . . . She is an amazing drama teacher,” said Serenity Church, freshman.

Beilstein says, “These kids are very talented. They are very self-motivated.” Her students have already displayed positive attitudes and willingness to cooperate with their new mentor.

“Everyone is very welcoming. I feel really at home,” says Beilstein.

Of course everyone is probably wondering if we will have a good drama production like we have the past years with Silver, but do not fret SJHHS staff and students.

The first drama production, Trouble With Summer People, will premiere November 7th. It is a nail-biting murder mystery comedy about two lovebirds honeymooning in Cape Cod unaware of a recent murder in the Wind Chimes guest house where they plan to stay.
