STAN (Students Take Art to the Nation) is a new art club formed to promote the students of San Juan Hills High Schools’ artwork to the community.
Members in the club will showcase their work, “even if a student is not particularly an artist, one can enjoy the company of them and all the art,” said Mrs. Colt, the teacher and supervisor of STAN, who came up with the idea and brought it to San Juan Hills.
The idea for the club was from a number of schools who have similar programs that came together well for the art loving community.
Students can benefit from this opportunity to immerse themselves in art. They will learn the skills of marketing their work as well as working with the public. This means that students who don’t have much of an artistic ability, but want to pursue a career in Business or Marketing will have a great opportunity to learn about the field before they go right into it.
Members that will not be making the art will promote the students art by displaying/selling them at different events around the community or even at school-run events like Say Boo to Drugs Night.
The members of the club have some ideas on how to incorporate art into the night like face painting, jewelry making, and other fun activities.
“Art is a refreshing way to get away from hours of school work,” said Leo Moneymaker, a member of the club.
Students of the club do not necessarily have to be in an art class to become a member. If one enjoys drawing, painting, sculpting, sketching, or any other form of art then this club offers a perfect way to share with others who possess similar artistic passions.
Jorge Dossantos, also a member of STAN, says that the club, “sounded interesting” and he “enjoys all aspects of art” so joining this club offers an opportunity to express his love for his passion.
STAN is a student run organization, where students can decide how to get their work out to the general public. They also they make the decisions on what they want the clubs’ potential to evolve to.
The meetings are held in E17, Mrs. Colts’ room. Cookies will be provided.
