Theater students Viola Whittaker, Sydney Briggs, Liam Herd, Jacob Koclanis, and Luke Dunphy are rehearsing a scene for upcoming musical, Clue, where a chandelier falls and crushes Mr. Green. Just like former and future musicals, Clue was chosen by theater arts instructor Cambria Graff.

Playing on the timpani, Lucas Patton (12) practices his percussion piece. Members of percussion, like Patton, play various instruments and cooperate together to steady the rhythm of the music.

Chamber Choir students Gwen Nishti (10), Olivia Calkins (10), Josiah Chapman (11), and Lisa Gnielinski (12) rehearsing one of their songs. The Chamber Choir is preparing to go to the American Chamber Directors Association this coming March and have to put in many hours to ensure they bring the best to their performance.

Beginning intermediate dancer, Anali Policarpo performs a Baile Folklorico dance, a dance style that originated from Mexico. The signature colorful skirt twirls to the beat of the song “Colima.”

Daylight Saving Time
Community members gather in the parking lot at CUSDs Education Center before the board meeting on October 18. The protestors split into two opposing groups, supporting and opposing the parental notification policy that has been adopted in some districts throughout California. Six police cars arrived to monitor and ensure the safety of the crowd throughout the rest of the board meeting.
Political Climate in the School Board Room is Scorching
Cutting the ribbon for the grand opening of the wellness center, Stuart McClure, Manoj Mahindrakar, Refugio Gracian, Christopher Brown, Judy Bullocks, Amy Hanacek, and representatives from CHOC Hospital, join together to celebrate the second wellness center in the Capistrano Unified School District. Located in the guidance building, students can come in to take a break and practice healthy coping habits to relax with pressures and anxiety.
Wellness Center Opens
During lunchtime, campus supervisor Enrique makes rounds in the lower quad with a trash can to reduce the amount of trash that students leave at the tables at the end of the lunch period. “Tell everyone to stop leaving trash everywhere!” said Enrique. Supervisors and custodial staff on campus work hard to keep the campus clean, but students must play their part as well.

Head Coach Robert Frith stares and scans the opponent warming up before battle. This stare-down is done before every Stallion Football game by the coach and team. San Juan ended up winning the game improving 7-0 against Tesoro High School.

Sofia is a junior at San Juan Hills High School and is returning for her third year here on The Express. She has a strong passion for reading, baking, and could listen to music all day. She loves the color pink, watching sunsets, and spending time with her best friend. She is also part of the National Honors Society and CSF. She cannot wait for another fun year being the Photo and Managing Editor with the rest of the Staff.

Gabriella Bello is a sophomore returning for her second year as a member of The Express staff. She is very excited to further grow as a writer and photographer, and take the initiative on starting up the first ever student podcast for San Juan Hills! Outside of school, Gabriella enjoys traveling, being in nature, baking, volunteering, listening to music, and spending time with her friends and family. Along with Newspaper, she is also a part of National Honors Society. Gabriella is looking forward to expressing her creativity and leadership this year as the A&E Editor.

Lucy Garibaldi is a sophomore at San Juan Hills High School and is excited to begin her first year on the newspaper staff. She is passionate about starting San Juan Hills High School’s first ever podcast! Outside of school, Lucy enjoys baking (and eating her creations!), shopping, spending time with friends and family, and being involved in her church community. Lucy hopes to attend the University of Tennessee and study elementary education after high school.
