The Growlers Release Their Fourth Album “Gilded Pleasures”

The Growlers is a rockabilly surf band perfect for driving, laying, or just running around. Their morbid lyrics mixed with a psychedelic tune creates the perfect remedy of stylistic audacity. They created their own genre of music called “beach goth”. Their music has a perpetual rondo and a distinct sound.

The band started in Dana Point in 2006, but moved to Costa Mesa, California. With Brooks Nielsen on vocals, Matt Taylor as the lead guitarist, Scott Montoya with drums and bass, Braun Perry also on the bass, and Kyle Straka on the keyboards and guitar, the band constructs a relaxing vibe.

Their first Album “Are You In or Out?” introduces their unique style of music with such songs as “Sea Lion Goth Blues” and “Graveyards Full”. They perfected their sound which has been consistent throughout the other three albums “Hot Tropics,” “Hung At Heart,” and “Gilded Pleasures”.

They released their fourth album, “Gilded Pleasures,” on November 12, 2013. With nine original songs, the new album is an excellent mixture of ballads and upbeat songs. Their music reverberates, sounding echo-y, as if singing in a tin can. “Humdrum Blues,” the fourth song on the album, is a favorite for it’s modern day romance about a man whose girlfriend will leave “unless I make her my wife.”

They promoted the fourth album on their latest tour “Beach Goth Party” and performed songs from their other three albums. The tour began on October 18 and they performed in other cities around the U.S.

If you like Wavves, Surfer Blood, The Black Keys, and Best Coast, you’ll definitely love The Growlers.
