R.O.P’s Fall Fashion Show

R.O.P’s Advanced Fashion class took its haute couture show “down the rabbit hole”.

Head Fashion Director Meggan Spellman (12) transformed Capistrano Valley High School to the runway and presented a spectacular show for the Advanced Fashion class.

“My class and I decided we would hold the fashion show six weeks earlier than in the years past. Everything was on a push and there was no room for error,” said Spellman

Each designer created an outfit with unique materials, and they used their designs to compete in the annual fashion show contest. The designers all took home different titles this semester. Spellman was awarded “Best Overall Design” for her dress made out of old Vogue magazine pages, a corset and high waisted skirt with a long train which was modeled by Amber Kellett (12).

“The hardest part about making my dress was definitely form fitting it to Amber. This dress had to be perfect because it was so delicate and long.

“said Spellman.

Spellman spent countless hours not only planning the show as a whole, but also designing her dress and making sure it was perfect and comfortable for her model to walk in.

“Meggan’s dress was very comfy and her dress was fit for me. I have terrible stage fright but the moment I got on stage I worked with what she made me,” said Kellett

Elica Ghoreishi (12) took home “Best Use of Materials” for her design of red burlap sewn into a drop waist cocktail dress, modeled by Claudia Hernandez (12).

Jennifer Pham(12) made a high waisted mid-length skirt out of old music sheets, modeled by Ayla Kumano (12), and took home the “Most Inspirational” award.

Amanda Budd (12) made a black tutu with black feathers, modeled by Karamel Kailee (12), and took home the “Best Style Composition” award.

Indiana Piorek (12) made a black skirt, jacket, shirt, and small purse all out of duct tape, modeled by Sara Beygi (12) and was awarded the “Best Technical Design” award.

The show couldn’t go on without help from the very talented Amber Smolders (11). Smolders was extremely helpful in getting the girls on stage on time and making the show flow.

“The most difficult part was getting all the models organized and making sure everyone came out on the right time and getting all the clothing organized to which side the models were coming out of,” said Smolders. “My favorite part was seeing the fashion show come to life after working on it for so long.”

Along with the contest of their own unique designs, each student also made a tutu for the “War with Roses” scene. the show had a total of eight scenes. “Down the Rabbit Hole” and “Wonderland” were by far the best of the whole show.
