Cadence Henss is a junior at San Juan Hills High School, and is coming back for her second year on The Express as the Caption and Copy Editor. She’s looking forward to experimenting with photography, and writing a diverse range of stories this year on The Express. Cadence enjoys taking photos, volunteering for multiple organizations, listening to a wide range of music, and hanging out with friends in her spare time. Cadence is working towards her future career, and wants to major in journalism and minor in english when she leaves for college.

Dance Show: Choreographer’s Ball

Choreographer Anothony Tunason choreographed a dance based on the Cabaret musical, with a lot of the music and ideas for costumes, coming directly from the Broadway production. Betzey Barrientos, Ashley Bedolla, Giselle Diaz, Natalie Garica, Ashley Hernandez, Hailey Hill, Callie Hirt, Kate Hoskin, Cheyanne Lee, Betzy Onofre, Jillian Ortiz, Disha Patel, Samantha Stock, Sandra Villalobos, Itzel Villanueva, and Ava Voorhies all point their figures in a dramatic manner as their show comes to an end.

This group dance gives a chilling vibe to the audience as they do a sequence of powerful group poses. Rylee Jump (11), Tatem Altman (9), Elise Malamatenios (12), Ava Alaniz (9) all look and reach up as a group towards the last part of their dance.

This elegant dance is performed in long lace dresses which adds a dramatic flare to the already spiritual dance. Siena Wells (10), Queanna Nguyen (11), and Audrey Chi (10) stand in their finishing poses as they look out into the audience.

The beloved childhood movie, Mary Popins, is transformed in this nosologic dance, bringing energy and child-like wonder to the stage. Megan Clatfelter (12) who plays Mary Popins poses with the chimney sweepers as they close the curtain

This dance evokes emotion while also consisting of a lot of complex turns and tricks. The gifted dancer, Devynn Smark (11) reaches up as she gets ready to do her next trick.

The select few solo dancers showed off their skills in the following dances, this one in particular has an emotional twist. Amelia Mui (12) dances gracefully across the stage.

Dancers participate in advanced tricks in their high energy dance. Stallions, Sophia Loftus (11) and Peach Miller (11) are seen leading their group in flashy red costumes.

The California State Seal of Civic Engagement is award for students who show excellence in civic education. Students who meet the requirements, will receive the seal on their high school diploma.

Congressman Mike Levin of California’s 49th Congressional District spoke to constituents in the SJHHS theater on March 16. During the town hall meeting, Levin addressed a range of issues that impact his constituents. His office commented that while funding should remain stable for CTE programs through the fiscal year of 2025, there are concerns that these programs will need to be reauthorized by Congress or be cut.

Urinetown cast members gather around the main character, Bobby Strong (Luke Dunphy). Bobby’s father was just taken away by the police for peeing illegally. This spurs the idea to lead a revolution against a monopolistic corporation known as Urine Good Company that regulates water consumption and restroom usage.

At the Battle of the Bell football game, Varsity Football’s offensive line charges at the opposing team, Tesoro Titans, to gain yardage towards a touchdown. The game ended in Stallion’s favor, 42-7. With an overall record of 10-1, the Stallions were league champions and are ranked #12 in California.

Mental health struggles in youth is a huge problem. Many adolescents tend to bottle up their emotions and look to unhealthy solutions to their problems. Poor mental health can cause adolescents to struggle with their school work and grades, as well as impacting many other areas in their life. Because of this, going to therapy, asking for guidance, and having support is crucial for improving poor mental health.
