For the first time in program history, the boys varsity lacrosse team has become Sea View League champions and has ended the season undefeated with a 6-0 record.
This is a huge milestone for the program and an outstanding accomplishment for the team. Over the years, the team has progressively improved and now all of their hard work has paid off.
“My favorite part of the season was coming out every week and working at practice with the boys. It’s been fun to see the growth of the team and the progress that we’ve made,” said Brandon Hunt (12).
A huge contributor to the team’s successful season was the new head coach, Ben Poploskie, who is known as Coach “Pops.” With over 15 years of playing experience and coaching lacrosse, he brought fresh and positive energy to the team.
“Having a new coach who is really committed to the team helped bring up the team morale and make the environment a good place where everybody was having fun and playing,” said Dylan Kline (12).
Another key factor that led to the team’s successful season was the time and effort the players put into team bonding. They had team dinners, watched college lacrosse games, went to the beach, practiced on the weekends, and went to In-N-Out after every game together.
“My team has grown much closer and we have developed bonds and friendships that will last,” said Jaxon Roberts (12).
Overall, the team was connected and the energy was always positive no matter the circumstance. This group has really encompassed what it means to be a successful team.
“Messing around with each other made the morale better which made us play better. Even if we were losing we were all still having fun, making jokes, and being there for our team,” said Velez.
Furthermore, 12 of the 24 players on the roster were sophomores and many had never played lacrosse before. Despite the large number of underclassmen, the team came together and formed a solid team environment that the players described as a “brotherhood.”
“We had to really integrate everyone and I think playing as a whole team helped us win the games. When we played as a team and just had fun, we played our best,” said Kline.
For most of the seniors, their favorite memory from this season was beating Beckman 9-8. This exciting win secured the league title for the Stallions.
“We won in the last twenty seconds. I think that win was probably the most memorable for me,” said Hunt.
This season for the boys varsity lacrosse team was filled with change and growth. From this experience, the seniors learned how important it is for teammates to be there for each other through thick and thin.
“As a senior, I want everyone to know that it’s good to be a part of a team and to have people that are there for you. It’s important to just not be there for them at practice but to actually be their friend outside of practice too,” said Hunt.
