As the World Series comes around SJHHS’s baseball teams hosts their very own.
Every year, the baseball team runs a world series tournament during the Major League Baseball (MLB) World Series season.
A draft day was scheduled right before the first game where senior captains got to pick and elect members of all baseball teams, building their own roster.
This year’s 2024 Stallion World Series captains are: Tanner Kessler, Corbin Nichols, and David Reeves. Seniors have waited for this opportunity ever since they were freshman as they get to step up and coach their own team to a hopeful victory.
Kessler, Nichols, and Reeves have all been playing since their freshman year. The Stallion World Series involves all levels of baseball; freshmen, junior varsity, and varsity. This tournament has been a satisfying moment for students who have been in the program to see how far they’ve come.
“I’ve been looking forward to it since I was a freshman, I mean I’ve been participating since I was a freshman but being a captain is different,” said Reeves.
The Stallion World Series has been a tradition for years, so long that athletes don’t know the exact origin.
“It’s been a thing for years, it’s been a thing even before Coach Levier,” said Reeves.
Not only were the games a good way to bond between upper and underclassmen but they are able to bond outside of the games.
“This tournament is something we do every year to get competitive and start the year off right. It’s definitely fun for us,” said Kessler.
Game 1 was filled with highlights such as a first time yard from catcher Nico Tasso (12), securing the first home run of the season.
Although the game was filled with happiness, it did bring some stress. Team Kessler was at first stuck at a tie of 4-4, but despite this they persevered and were able to make it into extra innings from a high pressure out.
Noah Wisneski, a top pick of Reeves, hit a triple for Team Reeves. His hit paired with a David Reeves’s single, bringing them to a lead against Team Nichols in game 2.
The Stallion World Series is a fun way for the teams to bond together and create a healthy environment going into preparation for their spring season.
“I think a great thing about our baseball team is making relationships between freshmen and seniors,” said Kessler.
Team Kessler managed to seal the deal and win the 2024 SJHHS World Series after playing Team Reeves in the Championship game.
The SJHHS baseball team is hopeful of the spring season and are looking forward to playing with one another.
