Girl’s Golf Qualifies for CIF Divisional Championship Once Again
October 24, 2016
As another fall sports season rolls by, this year is looking up for girl’s golf once again. Landing in second place in the Sea View League with a record of 6-2, both the girls and the coaches are looking forward to participating in CIF.
At the League Finals, the team qualified for CIF with five out of the six players scoring under 50. In the individual finals, four of the girls participated, however only Charlotte Smith qualified for individual CIF.
Although the team lost some top players who graduated last year, such as Emily Lichty, who now plays Division 2 at CSUSM as a freshman, there are still many valuable players on the team that are dedicated to the sport.
According to head coach, Jim Tinker, they will play in the CIF Divisional Championship on Monday, October 31. Tinker appointed seniors Maya Kulkarni, Charlotte Smith, and Makenna Kjellberg to carry the team as captains into another successful year.
Additionally, the triumph of the team could definitely be contributed by the wonderful cohesiveness of the teammates.
“This season has been really fun because all of the girls have a great time together and we all really have a good sense of humor when we are together,” said one of the team captains, Makenna Kjellberg.
“The girls are so much fun to be around,” said Coach Tinker, “They are focused during the matches, but before and after matches, they are hilarious.”
As always, team spirit is motivated by the dedicated coaches. “The coaches really try to make sure we do our best and they make sure we practice a lot on putting and achieving a short game,” said Kjellberg.
Hopefully CIF will exhibit an even better showing of skills both as a team and individually.
