SJHHS Baseball Touches Lives

Thirteen SJHHS varsity baseball players went to the Angels Stadium on Saturday Nov. 1 to attend the “Challenger Classic.”

The Challenger Classic partnered with the Angel Baseball Foundation and Bank of America in order to connect high school baseball players with disabled players. 900 children with either mental or physical disabilities, who all have an interest in playing baseball, came together in order to fulfill big league dreams.

“This event is special to me and I know that the boys on the team that helped that day felt we did some good work. The kids are truly special and the parents are amazing. We hope this will become an annual event for our baseball program moving forward,” said Local Regional Manager of Bank of America, Gioia McCarthy.

There were four fields set up in the outfield of the Angels Stadium where SJHHS baseball players supported the kids. They acted as best buddies, helping the kids stretch while also coaching them on baseball mechanics including fielding and hitting.

After practicing, a series of two-inning games were played and an awards ceremony shortly followed.

“Our team chemistry is stronger, being able to gain such an awarding experience by helping others, we have all defiantly grown closer,” said Jacob  Roberson (11). Charity events often leave people feeling fortunate and grateful, and this event did just that for the Stallion baseball team.
