Baseball Scoreboard Installed
After several years of waiting, the baseball field scoreboard has finally been built at San Juan Hills.
When the school was built it included a standard baseball field, which was lacking several traditional commodities but over time, many upgrades have been made. Cement has been added to the spectator area and dugouts and batting cages have been installed. The scoreboard, however, was the biggest goal of all the wanted amenities.
There were many state regulations requiring documentation, specifically one called the Division of State Architects (DSA) form. The state of California has to approve everything that is built on a school campus, to ensure safety for the students and also to prevent possible exposure to lawsuits due to faulty construction or material. Once the scoreboard was approved, SJHHS baseball moved the process along.
Like always, money was a huge factor as well.
The scoreboard SJHHS selected had a cost of approximately $30,000.The boys received a sponsorship from a local business man, Michael Schwartz, covering nearly 85% of the total investment needed.
Mr. Schwartz is the owner of SmartStop storage located in Ladera Ranch, along with multiple locations throughout the United States and Canada. The SmartStop logo is included on the scoreboard along with choice banner placement during games.
Having a scoreboard of this nature gives the boys a feeling of accomplishment and pride.
“It makes the program feel more real for the fans, alumni, and even visiting teams,” said
Marcus Williams (11).
“I have been on varsity for the past two years and this is my third year, so getting the recognition from local sponsors means a lot to me as a player and the school,” said Jaq McCarthy (11).
Coach Jeremy Wooten believes that if you have pride in what you’re doing and you build off of that, then it becomes bigger than just the individual and more about playing for the program.
The new scoreboard has given SJHHS baseball a great amount of pride, and the boys are excited to have it on the field for the seasons to come.
