Girls Cross Country Pursues Excellence
Saturday September 27 many stallions charged across the finish line at the annual Dana Hills Cross Country Invitational. The herd finished 34th overall on the boys side and 28th overall on the girls. Many of the new freshmen runners are providing the team with fresh faces (and legs), running stellar times, bumping the team up through the rankings.
Through the hard work and precise training provided by the expert coaching staff, the runners on the team have progressively become better athletes. In the freshmen race, Heather Johnson (9) ran her 3 mile in a time of 20:11, followed closely by Claire Welter (9) with a time of 20:56, outstanding times for two talented freshman.
Sophomore, Rayanne Brandt (10), ran a time of 19:34 landing her in 12th place for her race. Juniors, Katrina Fernandez (11) and Mariah Kirkham (11), both ran outstanding races in close times of 23:22 (Fernandez) and 23:43 (Kirkham) placing Fernandez in 93rd and Kirkham in 99th.
Three of the four senior girls competed in the weekend’s meet, Erin Brieg(12) finishing in 35th, with a time of 20:07, Athena Sgonzos(12) with a time of 21:23, landing her in 38th place. The other stallion to cross the line, Kiana Van Zanten(12), ran a 22:32 putting her in 49th place.
