Girls Basketball Shoots Their Way To CIF

The girls basketball team ended their incredible season with a loss of 37-38 to Corona del Mar. San Juan Hills was ahead with a score of 23-7 until the end of the second quarter.

They took Sea View League by storm with a score of 8-0 in league and a 10 game winning streak. The team, coached by Taryn Guillen, celebrated their first league championship this year and ranked ninth in all of Orange County and third in CIF.

Outstanding senior players such as Evelyn Fox, Jordan Coleman, and Abby Conklin have helped maintain the team’s consecutive wins. Individually, Fox scored 16 points against Dana Hills High School while Coleman scored 18 points against Aliso Niguel High School. The girls’ previous season finished with 4-4 in league. Coleman proudly said, “winning league was a big accomplishment. We didn’t do as well last year, so this was a big comeback.”

The girls bonded over weekend activities this season, although they sometimes have little bickers on the court. They were much closer on and off the court and that helped enhance their game. Conklin said, “we had a very good season and everyone is very close.”

Coleman shared that their secret to winning league was working as a team and strengthening their defense.

The improvements definitely payed off when the team won the Maxpreps tournament in Palm Springs. “The trip over christmas break was the most memorable thing this season. It was a lot of fun,” said Coleman.

This year, the Sea View league was made up of Tesoro, Trabuco Hills, Mission Viejo, Dana Hills, and SJHHS.
