Heesch told The Express she moved up to the Varsity team by “spending any free time chipping and putting because they definitely decrease your strokes.” Her advice to beginners or other golfers wanting to improve is “to take it one shot at a time and not give up because in golf you will always have your ups and downs.”
Julianne Meursing, one of the top Varsity players, shed some light on her secret to success on the course. Her key to keeping her scores low is “putting, short game, and keeping the ball in the grass!” She executes this plan during a match by “being confident, feel like nothing can bring you down, and relax so the bad shots and scores don’t get to you.”
The JV team is still developing and their record does not nearly reflect the dedication and enthusiasm they have for the game.
Alexis Richardson, JV team Captain, said that her favorite part of playing on the team is their pre-match ritual. Before they set off for their match, the team gathers in a circle, mimicking the beginning of “Eye of the Tiger,” and literally gallops away to meet their opponent at the tee. Richardson also said her main goal for the future is “to get the team to shoot the best that they can do and love the game.”
