San Juan Hills Principal Student Council is a body of student volunteers who work together and provide their own input to directly influence and impact our school. The Principal Student Council held a unanimous vote of what they would like to see on campus, and their first project is the Suggestion Box.
The Suggestion Box is planned to be located in the office and the purpose is to give all students a voice about issues and concerns, as well as suggestions that they would want to see on campus. This gives all students, rather than just the Council, the opportunity to provide their opinions, concerns, and feedback on campus issues or ideas that would benefit the school.
After agreeing on an idea, the Council broke into multiple groups and were assigned a task to help create the box. The group’s tasks are to create the slip designs, posters with QR codes to access a virtual google form of the box, film a commercial that will be featured in the Shane Show on the Mane Event, and construct the actual Suggestion Box.
Last Tuesday, the groups presented their ideas of what they created so far for the Suggestion Box and members from other groups gave their feedback to ensure that the box would serve its designed purpose.
“I am a part of designing the written slips for the physical Suggestion Box. It is a way for every student to be heard and express what they want or don’t want to see on campus. For example I have heard multiple students wanting more lunch tables around the upper quad. Hopefully we will finish by our next meeting around the beginning of March” said Abbie Aherm (9).
Not only will there be a physical box, but posters and links will be posted on Canvas, the social media account, the schools website, and hung around the school so more students can be aware of the project and it offers an easier way for students to share and submit their ideas anytime.
Principal Cina Abedzadeh has said that the Suggestion Box will be available to parents, staff, and community members. It is a nice way to give the parents and others a voice, be informed, and provide outside input that will benefit the school.
Students are to use the box responsibly and only propose new ideas or meaningful feedback rather than silly jokes or unrealistic requests. As the school year progresses, the Student Council will make any necessary adjustments.
The suggestions will be reviewed regularly by Principal Abedzadeh and the Suggestion Box will be available throughout the school year. This new initiative hopes to improve the communication and relationship between students and the administration and create a more engaged and proactive student body.
