Senior athletes Vincent McFadden and Emily Steil both committed to colleges on Wednesday. McFadden signed to the United States Military Academy and Steil committed to Iowa State University.

Obviously, being able to be accepted into West Point for [McFadden] is a pretty big deal. They don’t just take anybody, so that says a lot about him and about what he has accomplished,¨ said Athletic Director Armando Gonzalez.

The two won honorable mentions in 9th grade, placed 2nd in All Sea View League in 10th, and placed 1st in their individual sports in the All Sea View League in 11th.

¨I think they’re both who we want representing our school. I think that’s the most important thing,¨ said Gonzales.

Steil has volunteered at Soccer for Hope every year since she was 12 years old. It is a non-profit organization that raises funds for children with life-threatening diseases.

“[Steil] is a true leader and a great example of what a student-athlete should be. She is the hardest working player every time she steps on to the field and raises the level of everyone around her. [Steil] is an outstanding soccer player and a great role model for all,¨ said soccer coach Farrel Moore.

When she leaves SJHHS, Steil will miss,¨home games. Just having the fans all come out and we always feel more pumped and we always play better.¨

McFadden will miss ¨the laid back feel and all the people.¨ Furthermore, McFadden looks forward to ¨just being on my own. Not relying on my parents.¨

¨I want to get away, but I have family there so it’s the best way to get away but still have some family. And it’s in the Big Twelve Conference so that would be really awesome to play in a power conference,¨ said Steil in regard to why she chose Iowa State.  ¨I am excited for a new experience and a new beginning.¨
