Dresses, ties, football game, halftime show, dates: those words together bring one exciting event to mind- Homecoming.

Homecoming took place in the gym on Saturday, September 20th. SJHHS ASB staff is worked long hours to make the dance a memorable one, especially for the class of 2018 as this was be their first high school dance.

The theme of homecoming this year was Western, and each class will represented a different part of Western Culture. Freshmen were Gold Miners, Sophomores were Sheriffs, Juniors were Bandits, and Seniors were Cowboys. The classes also prepared halftime show performances that they showcased at the football game on Friday, September 19th. Students from each class have invested many hours of practice to ensure that their dance will be something to remember.

New freshmen every year are always excited but nervous for their first dance. Ryleigh Henning (9) mentions that she was “very nervous for [her] first high school dance, but mostly excited. Hopefully it will be better than the eighth grade dance!”

Starting on Monday, September 15th there was a dress up day for every day of the week. Monday was San Juan spirit day, Tuesday was 70’s day, Wednesday was America day, Thursday was Wilderness day, and the week ended with Western Wednesday.

The homecoming football game take place the day before the dance, Friday, September 19th. Our boys will be played Marina High School.

Prince and Princess were Lily Benjamin and Kevin Cullers for freshman. Mia Hargraves and Jacob Huff for the sophomores, and Tess Smolders and TJ Cavaliere for juniors. The senior king and queen was announced at the homecoming game.

Homecoming is a great way to take a break from the stressful first couple weeks of school, as it gives the students something exciting to focus on. If you are on the fence about going, anyone who has gone will recommend attending this exciting event.
