ROP Honors 19 from SJHHS

19 San Juan Hills’ students were honored at district-wide student ROP awards in our theater on May 6.

Each year, ROP instructors district-wide nominate one student to represent the South Coast Regional Occupational Program through not only academic excellence, but also commitment toward their career pathways, attitude and involvement in the community.

Out of 4,000 – 5,000 ROP students across the district, only 74 students were nominated to receive the Distinguished Student Recognition Award. Out of those 75 nominees, 19 of them came from our own, San Juan Hills.

This year we had two Stallion award winners. Sydney Barys, a senior nominated by Greg Carlson, won the Orange County ROP chapter award for her work in graphic design.

“Sydney is very interested in the subject matter, she’s always working and she enjoys being creative and is able to transmit that into her designs,” said Greg Carlson of her accomplishments.

The big winner of the night was San Juan Hill’s senior Kendell Johnson, who took home the ROP Student of the Year award along with a $1,000 scholarship.

South Coast ROP offers more than 50 courses and helps students not only find a career that they are interested in but it also gives students the opportunity to explore that career.
