Linktoberfest Says Boo to Drugs
With Halloween right around the corner, Link Crew prepares its second annual fall festivity with Linktoberfest. This freshmen only event will take place on Wednesday, October 23 and mock a traditional Oktoberfest with hot dogs and root beer available for $5.
“We want to try and get the freshmen actively involved in our culture here at SJHHS,” said Kim Stanga, Link Crew adviser.
Link Crew, established in 2011, is a school organization consisting of SJHHS juniors and seniors to help freshmen adjust to their first year of high school. In order to do this, Link hosts several activities throughout the year. The fall event, planned to always take place in October, is decided by students involved in Link through a brainstorm process of possible themes.
“We combined the ideas of a costume dance with some type of scary movie and then some kind of food as well, and we came up with the Linktoberfest idea,” said Stanga.
In order to get more publicity, Link Crew combined their event with Say Boo to Drugs Night, which is also an annual fall activity.
Last year’s scary movie night was located outside, whereas this year, it will be in the gym due to weather concerns. Another change from last year will be the hot dog man and root beer/soda sale. Although the overall theme of fall and Halloween will always be implemented, individual ideas such as a scary movie or Oktoberfest will change over the years.
Link Crew’s next event will take place closer to winter break as a holiday inspired theme for freshmen.
