Just Serve, a program that provides food and clothes to families in need worldwide, now has reached over three hundred schools nationwide, bringing students together to serve in their communities.
At San Juan Hills, the program provides students with meaningful ways to make a difference, from helping local residents to participating in projects with global impact.
“Small acts of kindness can go a long way especially when people aren’t expecting it,” said Blake Tanner (12).
Locally, Just Serve has helped feed the homeless at Doheny State Beach, collecting jackets, blankets, and other necessities to keep local families warm during the winter season. Their efforts show that even a small act of service can have a tangible effect on the community, creating positive change for those who need it most.
Their upcoming project will expand that impact beyond California. Working alongside Harvest Pack, a non-profit food relief organization, Just Serve will package 100,000 meals for underprivileged families in Central America. The event will take place on Saturday, November 8th, 2025, with hundreds of people ages six and up participating. Through joining, students have the chance to contribute directly to a large-scale effort that provides essential food to communities facing hunger. Just Serve’s outreach goes even further, connecting students with opportunities around the world to support disaster relief, refugee housing, and education initiatives.
“[We want to] help them out, you know? Give back because we’re so privileged here, and not everyone else is, we just want to give back to the community,” said Sovo Vonkaenel (11), Co-President of Just Serve.
Through programs like these, Just Serve encourages students to develop leadership, teamwork, and a sense of responsibility while directly impacting lives in meaningful ways. Volunteering provides opportunities to learn new skills, meet people from different backgrounds, and understand the importance of service in society.
“[Just Serve] is the perfect place to go if you’re looking to help out in the community and you want to do something that makes you feel fulfilled. Because after [serving] it makes you feel so much better about yourself, you can never go wrong trying to do service,” said Cambria Campbell (10).
By connecting students to projects both nearby and across the globe, Just Serve demonstrates that volunteering is not just a one-time event, it is a way to build connections and create lasting positive change. The program empowers students to contribute to causes that matter, showing that anyone can make a difference.
