Fashion is often seen as a way to express one’s personality. For some, picking out an outfit is a way to boost personal creativity.
Fashion allows people to express themselves without saying a thing. Dressing out of the box can help someone distinguish themselves and make a statement about who they are and how they want to be perceived.
“My favorite part of fashion is how everyone can be different, and it really shows people’s personality, it shows your character,” said Brielle Killion (11).
Social media plays a big part in the fashion world. Apps like Pinterest, Instagram, and Tik Tok are all constantly used as a source of inspiration.Additionally, some find inspiration from people they meet in everyday life.
“I used to have a band, going to shows and getting inspiration from musicians is where I found inspiration in fashion. Punk shows in particular,” said Huggins.
Sage Brost’s love for fashion and appreciation for vintage pieces helps her connect with her family members and has given her a revenge for past generations.
“ My mom is a huge inspiration for my fashion, she always hands me down a lot of pieces of clothing that I take a lot of interest in, I have a lot of friends too that express themselves through fashion, they support me to not be afraid to wear things that I would be nervous to wear to school,” said Borst (12).
As seasons change, so does fashion. Differentiating weather patterns within the four seasons allows fashion enthusiasts to showcase their style year long, and allows for many opportunities for creativity.
“Winter’s my favorite season for fashion, you can wear hoodies and pants and jackets, you can wear way more layers,” said Porter (11).
“Spring is my favorite season for fashion, overall I like fall clothing a lot but spring is so diverse in fashion, I can layer a lot or just wear a t-shirt and jeans,” said Borst.
Recently, going thrifting has become a trend. Many look to the goodwill bins and thrift stores to find vintage and one-of-a-kind pieces that can strengthen their style.
“I started to use fashion as a hobby, going thrifting became really fun,” said Killion.
Fashion choices showcase artistic thought, aspirations, and provides a platform for those to express themselves in a divergent manner.
“ I see fashion as an art form, there’s museums all around the world that house art that is so highly acclaimed, and in a style sense, fashion shows for example, it’s an artist’s form of expression, and I like how in the last couple decades fashion changed so much, as art changes, fashion changes,” said Borst.
