Quiet on set! Lights! Camera! Action!
Sophomore Chanel Bradford lights up the screen with her impressive film work and video production skills.
Bradford partnered with SJHHS alumni, Nate Lawson, for a Prime Video project. The team produced a two episode series called “Boy From LA”.
While this is her biggest project yet, Bradford’s experience with film production dates all the way back to middle school.
“In 7th grade I took the video production class and that’s what mainly sparked my passion. My teacher, Mrs. Shea, allowed me to be a producer. I got to make all of the story ideas and approve stories from other students,” said Bradford.
She has continued to build her experience in TV Broadcast Journalism and Video Production classes, and a Videography class at Saddleback College.
“Taking these classes made me realize I wanted a future career in video production and filmmaking. I took smaller roles and did things for friends and family. I also did smaller videography jobs,” said Bradford.
Working on “Boy From LA” gave Bradford real film experience, giving her a glimpse into the reality of TV production. She got to put all of her skills to work as well as learn from others like her.
“My friend Nate Lawson was in my TV broadcast journalism class last year. He has amazing experiences and opportunities. He knows I am passionate about filmmaking and want to pursue it in the future. He has two episodes on prime video called “Boy From LA” and I helped produce the second episode,” said Bradford.
Bradford’s production work isn’t stopping at “Boy From LA.”
“A few weeks later Nate asked me to do a documentary which is coming out soon. It’s called “Fast Track: Taking on The Speedway”. We got to go to a NASCAR Race and watch it at Irwindale Speedway,” said Bradford.
This is an even bigger project and a new experience for Bradford because she got to be a part of the starting process of a film production. Her team was assigned to conduct interviews with NASCAR drivers and racers.
“It was really cool, we got to interview a bunch of the racers. We interviewed a San Juan Hills student, Cristian Roberts. He is a senior here. We were able to connect with him to get the permission to interview the NASCAR drivers,” said Bradford.
Bradford’s production “Fast Track: Taking On The Speedway” will be released soon on Prime Video. She continues to take classes and work on film content with her team.
One day, Bradford hopes to see her name in the end credits of big-time films.
