High Schoolers Create Surf Company
High school entrepreneurs Michael Iacometti (12) and Alex Pagan (12) started their future in the surf industry and created Chop House Surfboard Repair Shop.
Chop House is a new company that is “all about getting you surfing again only a few hours after you ding up your board.”
Chop House Surf began with Iacometti’s spontaneous idea about a year ago.
“Michael comes up to me one day and he’s like, ‘We’re gonna make a surf company, and it’s gonna be named Chop House.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah we are,’” said Pagan.
The sudden idea appealed to both Iacometti and Pagan, and so they decided to make Chop House Surfboard Repair Shop official.
Their choice of name is mysterious in origin.
“There’s really nothing behind [the name],” said Iacometti, “it’s just a catchy name,” said Pagan.
For surfboard reparations, Chop House charges about half as much as competitors do.
They also sell products such as hand planes, surf fins, and Chop House t-shirts which they personally designed in the R.O.P Silk Screening class.
“It’s more fun to make your own stuff instead of making shirts for other brands,” said Iacometti.
Regarding the future of Chop House surf, Iacometti and Pagan hope for it to grow into an official surf brand with at least one shop location in Southern California. They hope to “continue promoting the surfing culture around Southern Orange County.”
