DJ Turned His Passion Into a Big Business

SJHHS student Griffin Dennen (12), founder of Apexx Productions, has taken his small start up company and transformed it into the successful and thriving enterprise that it is today.

Apexx Productions is a mobile lighting, audio, and disk jockey entertainment service that caters to Orange County, Los Angeles, and San Diego. Dennen has a deep passion and love for music, so the start of his company offered him a perfect outlet.

“I started my company when I was in seventh grade, and I don’t even know if at the time I would have even considered it a company. I was just a little middle school kid wheeling around my dad’s guitar amp to houses and playing music,” said Dennen.

Since the start up a few years ago, Apexx has been transformed from an ameteur entertainment company to something much more.

“It’s really cool to see something that started as just something I did for fun, turn into something big like it has,” said Dennen.

He began to recruit the help of others, and their combined efforts brought the company to the heights that it stands at today.

“I met my number one DJ, CJ Woodul (San Clemente High School, 12), and we kind of started working together. He brought a lot to the company and got us a lot of events. Then we continued to just use our resources and make connections, we took every opportunity to broaden our horizons and help push ourselves to the next level,” said Dennen.

Apexx now works small local events and parties, as well as larger events like the SJHHS Fall GLOW dance which was held on Nov 7. Dennen had always wanted to be involved in the production of a dance at SJHHS, and he saw the Fall dance as a perfect opportunity.

“I was talking to the ASB adviser and I convinced her to let us take a chance, she gave us full control over the dance,” said Dennen. “We learned a lot and are hopefully looking forward to doing future events at SJHHS as well.”
