Teacher Feature: Ahmer is Back!
The table-flipping teacher from Ladera Ranch Middle School is back! Matt Ahmer is one of the eighteen new teachers at SJHHS.
“Probably, the biggest object I’ve thrown [in class] was a two-table desk. . . Yeah, that got flipped over.”
When Ahmer taught at LRMS, he acquired an amazing reputation among the students, and somehow that followed him here. How?
“Probably, the biggest object I’ve thrown [in class] was a two-table desk. . . Yeah, that got flipped over,” said Ahmer. And that was just in one day. Ahmer’s enthusiastic and energetic way of teaching is the reason that every student he teaches remembers him.
Sadly, flipping desks isn’t appropriate in high school history class, so Ahmer has acclimated.
Ahmer seems to be adapting to the new high school atmosphere well.
“It has been awesome so far, everybody seems to get along better. Things are smoother. I noticed it right away,” said Ahmer.
“Mr. Ahmer has become a little more serious, but still has the same sense of humor,” said Max Hooites-Meursing, a current and former student of Mr. Ahmer.
“He’s a great teacher, who teaches in a funny way,” said Bryce Thomas (10), another current student of Ahmer.
When Ahmer isn’t in the classroom, he enjoys playing sports with his two kids, going camping with his family, supporting his four fantasy football teams, or playing Xbox One.
